There are several approaches as to how you set about your tobacco
policy.
The range is huge:
Ignoring the issue will probably involve you in some form of remedial
compliance works in the next two years, and you could leave yourself
open to litigation action from a member of staff. It's slight at
this stage, but several cases have already been settled out of court.
Going for the full Monty at this stage may look expensive, but
has several obvious benefits and some not so obvious. OK so here
is a combination of the safety hat and the marketing hat.
- If you have a full vent policy and the HSO knows about it, he
will be somewhere else, it's a bit like the visual presence of
a burglar alarm box, someone else gets hit.
- You will be further down the time line of having to comply with
any new draconian changes, if and when they occur.
- News is that if you have signed up and operate the best policy
and system available, you are pretty much clear of litigation
action.
